Our Mission
To empower individuals and families affected by substance use disorder and mental health challenges by providing peer-driven recovery support, fostering a sense of community and advocating for equitable access to recovery resources. We aim to create a welcoming and stigma-free environment that promotes long-term recovery, personal growth, and a holistic well-being for all, providing resources and advocating for self-directed care.
A Recovery Community Organization (RCO) is a grassroots, nonprofit organization run by and for individuals in recovery from substance use disorders and their families. These organizations play a crucial role in supporting recovery and promoting community well-being. Here's how they help:
1. Peer Support
-
Peer Recovery Coaches: RCOs often employ individuals in long-term recovery who provide mentorship and support to others on their recovery journey.
-
Support Groups: Facilitate mutual-aid meetings, workshops, or informal gatherings where individuals can share experiences, challenges, and successes.
2. Advocacy
-
Reducing Stigma: Work to reduce the stigma surrounding addiction and recovery by educating the public and policymakers.
-
Policy Influence: Advocate for policies that support recovery services, harm reduction, and access to treatment.
3. Recovery Resources
-
Connection to Services: Help individuals find treatment centers, housing, employment, and other essential services.
-
Educational Programs: Offer classes and training on recovery skills, relapse prevention, and life-building tools.
4. Family and Community Support
-
Family Programs: Provide resources, education, and counseling for families affected by addiction.
-
Community Events: Organize events like recovery walks, wellness fairs, and sober activities to promote inclusivity and build a sense of community.
5. Recovery-Friendly Environments
-
Sober Spaces: Create drug-free spaces for socialization, recreation, and skill-building.
-
Recovery Centers: Offer physical locations where individuals can access services and connect with others in recovery.
6. Empowerment and Leadership Development
-
Leadership Opportunities: Train individuals in recovery to take on leadership roles within the organization or broader community.
-
Advocacy Training: Equip members with the skills to share their stories and influence change.
7. Holistic Health Support
-
Wellness Programs: Focus on mental, physical, and emotional health through activities like yoga, meditation, and fitness classes.
-
Crisis Support: Offer immediate assistance and referrals in times of relapse or crisis.
8. Long-Term Recovery Planning
-
Individualized Plans: Help individuals create sustainable recovery plans tailored to their needs and goals.
-
Continuous Support: Provide ongoing support, even after initial treatment, to help maintain long-term sobriety.
Recovery Community Organizations bridge the gap between clinical treatment and everyday life, fostering an inclusive and empowering environment for sustained recovery. Their work not only impacts individuals but also strengthens families and communities.

Key Services and Resources
Peer Support: RCOs provide peer-to-peer recovery support, where individuals in recovery mentor or coach others who are also on the recovery path. This may include one-on-one mentoring, group meetings, or support networks.
Advocacy: RCOs work to reduce stigma around addiction and advocate for policies that support recovery. They may collaborate with local, state, or national policymakers to promote recovery-friendly legislation and community practices.
Education and Awareness: These organizations often educate the public and communities about addiction, recovery, and how they can help. They offer workshops, events, and programs to build awareness and understanding.
Recovery Resources: RCOs provide connections to housing, employment, education, healthcare, and social services that can support recovery efforts. They help individuals navigate systems like health insurance, legal aid, and addiction treatment.
Community Building: By organizing social events, cultural activities, and support networks, RCOs foster a sense of belonging and connection, which is critical to sustained recovery. They create safe spaces where people can develop positive relationships.
Training and Leadership Development: Many RCOs offer training to develop leadership skills within the recovery community, empowering people to become recovery advocates or peer support specialists.
